About The Position

Pharmaron (San Diego) is seeking to hire an outstanding candidate to join our vivarium department. The Husbandry Support provides husbandry and animal care to laboratory animals (rodents, rabbits, dogs, pigs, and other animals as needed) in conventional, immuno-compromised, and BSLII laboratory areas.

Requirements

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills who thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• High school preferred but not essential
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
• Strong attention to detail and time management
• Will be required to work on a rotation that involves some weekends/holidays as well.
• Lift, push, and pull objects up to 50 pounds regularly
• Work in a physically demanding environment that may include exposure to strong cleaning agents, noise, and varying temperatures
• Perform repetitive motions and handle equipment requiring strength and coordination

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a laboratory animal facility would be a plus

Responsibilities

• Performs cage wash functions, including the operation of cage washers and autoclaves.
• Discards waste according to the company's regulatory guidelines.
• Cleans and sanitizes tenderfoot floors.
• Cleans and sanitizes animal rooms, walls, hallways, and other support areas.
• Has the ability to work safely with chemical disinfectants.
• Reports maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel.
• Weekend shifts as needed for health rounds or normal operation if required by workload.
• Has the ability to handle some unpleasant elements and tolerate normal odors/airborne particulate matter of a rodent facility.
• Detects and reports malfunctioning and/or defective equipment.
• Follows mandatory PPE policies.
