About The Position

The Humboldt Bay ISFSI Security Specialist is responsible for ensuring the security and safety of the Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) at PG&E's Humboldt Bay site. This role involves performing daily security operations, emergency response, and surveillance duties to protect the facility from theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access. The position requires maintaining qualifications for security functions and participating in training and drills, with a commitment to uphold PG&E's vision and values.

Requirements

  • Achieve and maintain qualifications for ISFSI operations, emergency response, and security functions within the first six months of employment.
  • Pass physical tests as an armed responder using an NRC mandated contingency weapon within the first six months of employment.
  • Maintain Unescorted Access Authorization.
  • Obtain and maintain Emergency Coordinator and Security Coordinator qualifications within the first six months of employment.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Pass a background check in accordance with NRC standards with no reliability or trustworthiness issues.
  • Pass psychological tests.
  • Ability to frequently lift/move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds, and carry up to 35 pounds of equipment daily.
  • Successfully complete basic and advanced security and emergency plan training.
  • Pass a physical exam to be employed and continue employment based on future physical exams.
  • No legal impediment to carry a firearm or any physical condition that would prevent completing physical tasks.
  • Ability to work any shifts and holidays, including overtime, with little-to-no notice.
  • Not taking any medicine that will impair mental or physical abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform overall operation of the primary and/or secondary alarm stations during routine, emergency, and contingency activities.
  • Monitor CCTV, plant surveillance equipment, and alarm systems.
  • Deter criminal activity, misconduct, and safety violations.
  • Test intrusion detection systems and confirm proper functioning, including surveillance and equipment tests and inspections.
  • Escort and observe individuals and property to protect against thefts, irregularities, and unauthorized entry.
  • Perform foot patrols to ensure security of fences, doors, gates, structures, and buildings, and report suspicious activity.
  • Verify identity and authorization of all visitors.
  • Perform searches of coworkers, hand-carried items, vehicles, and materials.
  • Execute security assignments to complement the Site Security Plan, Emergency Plan, and Safeguards Contingency Plan during various situations.
  • Assume the role of Security Coordinator (SC) and/or Emergency Coordinator (EC) during drills and off-normal events.
  • Receive initial emergency reports and direct the response of ISFSI coworkers, coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies as necessary.
  • Report all off-normal conditions to supervision and/or other agencies.
  • Lead or participate in shift turnover, daily operating reviews, and site visitor interface.
  • Perform access control operations at fixed posts around perimeter entry/exit points as directed.
  • Conduct site maintenance such as cleaning cameras and general upkeep of working areas.
  • Respond to emergencies consistent with the emergency plan and physical security plan.
  • Read, understand, and maintain documentation including timekeeping, reports, logs, and procedures.
