About The Position

This position is on the Constituent Concerns team, which is in the County Operations section of NC DHHS, DSS. In this position you will assist constituents who have a question or concern about work done by county Departments of Social Services. You will interact not only with the constituent, but with county DSS staff, other state agencies, legislative offices and the office of the Secretary of DHHS. You will provide education and guidance around law and policy and assist constituents in navigating the Child Welfare system. You will be responsible for some data entry, as well as documenting actions taken and tracking of multiple cases being worked.

Requirements

  • INTERNAL POSTING: ONLY PERMANENT FULL-TIME, PERMANENT PART-TIME, PROBATIONARY, TRAINEE, TIME-LIMITED, OR TEMPORARY NORTH CAROLINA EMPLOYEES OR LAYOFF CANDIDATES WITH THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA ELIGIBLE FOR RIF PIORITY REEMPLOYMENT CONSIDERATION AS DESCRIBED BY GENERAL STATUTE (GS) 126 MAY APPLY.
  • Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.
  • Master's degree in a discipline relative to the program from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of related experience; or Bachelor’s degree in a discipline relative to the program area from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with child welfare systems, particularly county-administered services.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to engage with distressed or concerned constituents in a professional and empathetic manner.
  • Experience with case intake, documentation, and maintaining confidential records.
  • Experience in making sound judgments, discretion, and adherence to confidentiality and procedures.
  • Experience in applying organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple cases and track follow-up through resolution.

Responsibilities
