About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! The Human Services Program Manager II position is located at Nash Correctional Institution. This position works in the Behavioral Health Department of the Department of Adult Corrections. The Human Services Program Manager II (HSPM II) is responsible for program management and supervision of the Behavioral Health program at Nash Correctional Institution. Work involves planning, directing, implementing, and evaluating the system for delivery of mental health services, providing direct psychological services to offenders with a range of emotional and behavioral issues, and serving as a liaison between subordinate staff and management at Nash Correctional Institution.

Requirements

  • Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.
  • Master's degree in a disciple specific to the program from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in the area of assignment, including two years in a supervisory or consultative capacity; or Bachelor's degree in a discipline specific to the program from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of experience in the area of assignment, including two years in a supervisory or consultative capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Establish program goals and objectives, set priorities and deadlines, and work with multidisciplinary staff to accomplish goals and address service delivery needs.
  • Provide input to facility and agency management on policy and service delivery issues and supervises staff to ensure operations are consistent with the overall mission of Behavioral Health.
  • Coordinate behavioral health services
  • Develop work plans for mental health staff
  • Consult with the psychiatric provider at the institution
  • Manage behavioral health staff to ensure staffing patterns and resources meet anticipated demands, training needs and licensure requirements.
  • Mental health triage/screening
  • Crisis intervention
  • Mental health assessment and treatment planning
  • Individual and group therapy
  • Suicide/self-injury assessment and management
  • Restrictive Housing reviews and evaluations.
  • Conduct risk assessments on offenders with a history of violent or sexual crimes
  • Travel to other facilities to complete HUB-related duties, as clinically relevant and necessary for behavioral health system function, as directed by the Human Services Program Manager III.
