About The Position

The Human Resources Specialist is responsible for providing transactional support to various departments within the City of San Antonio's Human Resources Department. This role involves managing recruitment activities, processing new hires, and handling employee status changes, while ensuring compliance with HR policies and procedures. The position requires effective communication with management and employees, as well as maintaining accurate records and files.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in data processing or human resources processes.
  • Knowledge of City, State, and Federal policies and regulations relating to HR.
  • Knowledge of English usage, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of research methods and modern office practices.
  • Basic bookkeeping practices and mathematical principles.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer and using software.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SAP or similar HR software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication.

Responsibilities

  • Initiates and coordinates recruitment activities as requested by assigned department(s).
  • Processes new hires, including benefits enrollment and payroll records establishment.
  • Handles changes in employee status such as promotions, demotions, and transfers.
  • Processes employee terminations and associated transactions.
  • Initiates position changes and submits salary adjustments.
  • Enters EPDP results and generates monitoring reports for assigned departments.
  • Pre-books employees for Central Human Resources training.
  • Enters Worker's Compensation incidents into SAP and coordinates the process with HR.
  • Receives and reviews requests for FMLA leave and advises departments on eligibility.
  • Provides information to management and employees regarding HR policies and procedures.
