About the position

Corrections professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities. This position is responsible for planning, developing, administering, and evaluating employee development and in-service educational activities. The incumbent will effectively manage all resources to ensure training needs are provided for staff development and ensure training standards are met. The role includes the coordination, implementation, and monitoring of the institution's training and employee development program, serving as the primary advisor to the Warden in matters relating to the management of the Employee Development Department.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, administer, and evaluate employee development and in-service educational activities.
  • Manage resources to ensure training needs are met for staff development.
  • Coordinate, implement, and monitor the institution's training and employee development program.
  • Provide Introduction to Correctional Techniques (ICT) Phase I to all new hires.
  • Train and develop in-house trainers and instructors in teaching concepts and techniques.
  • Develop course outlines, lesson plans, and course schedules.
  • Implement effective tools of evaluation for the training program.
  • Maintain security of the institution as part of correctional responsibilities.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service.
  • Experience in assessing employees' need for training.
  • Experience with aligning training with organization's strategic goals.
  • Experience in providing logistical support, course development, delivery, evaluation, process measurements, and cost management.
  • Experience in building solid cross-functional relationships.
  • Experience in creating a training budget and keeping operations within budget.
