About The Position
The Human Resources Intern will be an integral part of SMUD's Labor Relations Team, providing support and gaining valuable insights into the functions of the Labor Relations Office. This role involves assisting with the interpretation and administration of SMUD policies and procedures, including areas such as positive discipline, substance abuse, Fair Employment Office complaints, and Memorandums of Understanding. The intern will also help ensure compliance with SMUD Civil Service Rules and regulatory obligations, particularly those related to the Department of Transportation. In this position, the intern will handle confidential employee information and will be required to maintain strict confidentiality. The role will involve monitoring and saving Department of Justice notifications for new hires and subsequent arrests, supporting Employee Development Department claims administration, and assisting in labor relations fact-finding investigations. The intern will gather data, draft discipline documents, and provide administrative support for labor negotiations scheduled for 2025-2026. SMUD's College Internship Program is designed to provide college students with the opportunity to contribute their skills while gaining practical work experience.
