About The Position

We are seeking a high-impact HR, Payroll & Benefits Manager to serve as the architect of our people operations. This isn’t a maintenance role; you will be responsible for designing our first comprehensive benefits suite from the ground up, taking full ownership of our payroll engine, and ensuring our hiring and termination practices are legally bulletproof. We need a "builder" who can balance financial strategy with a deep empathy for the employee experience.

Requirements

  • Experience: 4–6+ years of HR experience, with at least 3 years specifically focused on benefits design and payroll administration.
  • The "Builder" Track Record: Proven experience building or significantly restructuring a benefits package from scratch.
  • Regulatory Expertise: Mastery of US labor laws regarding hiring, performance management, and termination.
  • Technical Mastery: High proficiency in HRIS/Payroll platforms (e.g., Gusto, BambooHR) and skills for financial modeling.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification: SHRM-CP/PHR is highly preferred. A Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is a significant plus.

Responsibilities

  • Benefits Strategy & Program Design (Priority)
  • Package Creation: Lead the strategic design and implantation of a competitive "Total Rewards" package, including health, dental, vision and possibly life & 401K).
  • Broker & Vendor Partnership Act as the primary lead in selecting insurance brokers, negotiating annual renewals, and conducting market benchmarking to ensure your offerings remain competitive.
  • Cost Modeling: Develop employer/employee contribution models that. align with the company's budget while maximizing value for the team.
  • Annual Open Enrollment: Own the entire lifecycle of Open Enrollment, from plan selection and system configuration to. hosting educational meetings for the staff.
  • Payroll Mastery & Financial Compliance
  • End- to-End Payroll: Manage semi-monthly payroll, commission and contractor payments with 100% accuracy.
  • Tax Oversight: Ensure compliance with multi-state tax withholdings and federal regulations.
  • Audit & Reporting: Conduct regular audits of. payroll data and benefits billing to ensure financial integrity and identify cost-saving opportunities
  • HR Operations : Hiring & Termination Compliance
  • Defensible Off-boarding: Manage the involuntary termination process, ensuring all separations are documented, legally compliant, and handled with professionalism.
  • Regulatory Guardrails: Update & maintain the Employee Handbook to reflect current labor laws; advise leadership on "at-will" employment and risk mitigation.
  • Strategic Hiring: Oversee the hiring funnel, ensuring fair. hiring practices and a seamless transition from "signed offer" to a fully equipped, on-boarded team member.
