About The Position

The Human Resources Generalist at SpartanNash is responsible for managing day-to-day HR activities, including workforce planning, performance management, associate relations, and training. This role provides guidance to management and associates on company policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements while fostering a People First culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field (Preferred).
  • PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
  • Seven years of human resources generalist experience.
  • Supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Experience in a distribution or retail environment, preferably in food distribution or consumer packaged goods.
  • Experience with multi-site locations strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of human resources policies and practices.
  • Detailed knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently on projects and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Ability to travel 10-25% to company locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional in Human Resources certification (Preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate personnel administration, associate relations, and training within assigned locations.
  • Prepare new hire paperwork and maintain compliance files in accordance with organizational goals and EEOC regulations.
  • Provide guidance to management and associates on various HR issues including promotions, benefits, and disciplinary actions.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external contacts for effective program administration.
  • Recommend improvements and best practices in HR processes.
  • Investigate unemployment compensation claims and recommend actions on claims.
  • Partner with HR management in developing Affirmative Action Plans and Equal Opportunity Employment programs.
  • Participate in unemployment compensation claim hearings as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with HR-related legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the development and presentation of training and management development activities.
  • Maintain HR associate records and submit necessary documentation for processing associate changes.
  • Stay updated on legal regulations and industry trends to improve HR programs and processes.
  • Provide guidance on HR-related regulations such as EEO and AAP.
  • Manage department staffing, training, performance management, and career development of associates.
