Position Description: Provide comprehensive Human Resources support to assigned business units across the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, employee relations, performance management, compliance, HRIS processing, recruiting, and training. Serve as a trusted advisor to employees and leadership, ensuring consistent, compliant, and repeatable HR practices. This role requires a bilingual HR professional with strong systems experience, sound judgment, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, detail-driven environment.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of progressive HR experience with broad exposure across multiple HR disciplines (recruiting, employee relations, compliance, onboarding, performance management, etc.)
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) required
  • Strong working knowledge of state and federal employment laws; ability to research and apply laws across multiple states
  • Demonstrated experience processing HR transactions and managing people data within HRIS systems (SAP experience helpful but not required)
  • Comfortable owning systems and manual tracking processes with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Self-starter who can operate independently without step-by-step direction on foundational HR practices
  • Highly organized with strong follow-up habits; able to manage responsibilities across different business units and geographic locations
  • Professional, approachable presence with ability to build trust across all employee levels, including trades
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of delivering training and presentations
  • Motivated to grow within the HR function and contribute to stabilizing and improving existing processes
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • PHR®, SPHR®, SHRM-CP®, or HR law certification preferred
  • Experience in construction, construction-related industries, or large (10,000+ employees) organizations preferred

Responsibilities

  • Represent company culture, values, and Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) initiatives. Actively participate in anti-racism learning and advocate for equity, employee wellbeing, and inclusive practices.
  • Administer and communicate HR programs, policies, and procedures; provide timely, accurate guidance to employees and managers across multiple business units.
  • Establish a trusted, neutral HR presence. Regularly connect in person with employees where they work, including field and construction sites.
  • Provide practical, compliance-based guidance to leadership on employee relations matters, performance management, investigations, discipline, involuntary terminations, and claims, with escalation as appropriate.
  • Manage and facilitate performance and development programs; support succession planning and prepare materials for leadership discussions.
  • Own HRIS and people data processing, including SAP, Cornerstone, First Advantage, background checks, leave of absence processing, onboarding workflows, and related systems. Ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely completion of all transactions.
  • Proactively manage sourcing, recruitment, and onboarding of interns, college hires, and experienced professionals.
  • Manage college recruiting and career fair activities; interview candidates and prepare recommendations to support hiring decisions.
  • Extend offers of employment and guide hiring managers through offer execution and onboarding processes.
  • Serve as primary candidate contact and coordinate onboarding, new hire orientation, and first-day experience.
  • Organize and administer internship programming; serve as escalation point of contact for interns.
  • Serve as first point of contact for relocations and transfers, including vendor coordination and community resource support.
  • Manage immigration and work authorization processes (e.g., visas, permanent residency) with guidance from HR leadership.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts; apply basic lean concepts to streamline processes, improve tracking, and enhance repeatability.
  • Self-manage workload, track deadlines aligned to the HR annual calendar, and ensure follow-through across multiple business units and geographies.
  • Support shared services approach across business units; may provide HR support to additional Midwest locations as needed.
  • Participate in rotational or overnight training (e.g., Des Moines or other BUs) and occasional overnight travel for HR meetings, training, or field support.
