About The Position

The Human Resources Generalist plays a critical role in supporting VTC’s mission by managing day-to-day HR functions across the organization. This position ensures compliance with employment laws and internal policies, supports staff recruitment and retention, and fosters a positive workplace culture in alignment with the organization's values.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of HR experience, preferably in a nonprofit or social services setting required.
  • Knowledge of California labor laws and HR best practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills with high initiative.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

Nice To Haves

  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or HRCI Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full cycle hiring process, including job postings, screenings, interviews, and onboarding.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR files within the HRIS system.
  • Administer employee benefits programs and support open enrollment and benefits education.
  • Assist in developing and implementing HR policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Support performance management processes including evaluations, progressive discipline, and staff development/training opportunities.
  • Respond to employee inquiries and assist with conflict resolution or workplace concerns.
  • Maintain timekeeping systems and assist with payroll processing.
  • Coordinate training and development opportunities for staff that adhere to contract and grant requirements.
  • Provide HR support during audits and grant reporting processes as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of VTC.
