About The Position

Established in 1948, the Mission of ASCEND Mental Wellness is to encourage and assist individuals in discovering pathways to their optimal mental health and wellness, while supporting hope and awareness of well-being in our community. We are seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our Administrative team at ASCEND. This role oversees the employee experience from recruitment and onboarding through retention, performance, and off-boarding, while supporting benefits administration, HR systems, compliance, and employee relations. Working closely with Senior Leadership, the Human Resources Generalist helps foster staff engagement, resolve workplace issues, and strengthen organizational culture in support of ASCEND's mental wellness mission. The ideal candidate can work independently, demonstrates strong problem-solving skills, and collaborates effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Supervisory experience is a plus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Human Resources or Business Administration and at least 3 years of HR Generalist experience demonstrating knowledge of HR practices, legal rules and regulations, preferably in a non-profit human services environment. A combination of sufficient relevant experience and certification may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience with an HR Information System (HRIS) and/or payroll systems (i.e. iSolved or similar).
  • Valid NYS driver's license acceptable to Agency insurance standards.
  • Must be of good character and background and have strong interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources is welcomed.
  • Supervisory experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Administer Agency all aspects of the employee life cycle including recruitment, pre-employment hiring process, hiring, orientation, retention, and off-boarding functions.
  • Maintain all personnel and training records, including that of Agency volunteers and interns as well as maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee data within the HRIS.
  • Work with Senior Leadership to administer staff satisfaction surveys and employing all necessary follow up and corrective actions.
  • Direct and manage benefits administration for Agency employees.
  • Maintain oversight of employee performance evaluations procedures.
  • Manage internal employee relations and coach employees and managers on correct interpretation and administration of Company HR policy as necessary.
  • Investigates work-related issues and recommends proactive solutions and/or strategies to address department-specific issues.
  • Perform EEOC and OSHA-required activities, including the maintenance of data and reporting.
  • Manage leaves of absence, accommodations, return-to-work processes, and interactive ADA discussions.
  • Assist and advise Agency leadership in carrying out responsibilities regarding personnel matters.
  • Provide training to staff on core HR topics as necessary.
  • Participate in the action plans for department goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation to assist Corporate Compliance Officer in assuring Agency compliance with all Federal and State regulations pertaining to all personnel matters, and ensuring necessary communication to Agency Leaders, employees, volunteers, and interns of new or changed matters.
  • Function as liaison for Agency's Employee Assistance Program provider, Human Resources consultants, Agency attorneys, IT vendors for onboarding/deboarding processes, and HRIS vendors.
  • Maintain a safe environment for all clients and staff.
  • Maintain effective communication with other staff members and supervisor and present as a role model for Agency employees.
  • Preserve human dignity and confidentiality of all staff and clients and act in the best interest of those served through the Agency's programs and services.
  • Always assure quality of work.
  • Adhere to all laws and regulations applicable to the Agency's business.
  • Adhere to the Agency's Corporate Compliance Program and established policies and procedures.
  • Always positively represent the Agency within the community.
  • Have excellent computer skills, or more refined for specific job titles.
  • Actively participate in scheduled team/staff meetings as scheduled by supervisor or as indicated by the program's services.
  • Actively participate in Agency sponsored staff development and in-service educational programs as deemed necessary by supervisor, including mandatory trainings assigned per job title.
