About The Position

The Director of Human Resources leads the site HR function for our Mills River, NC manufacturing operation and provides strategic HR leadership across our manufacturing footprint. This role partners closely with plant leadership and corporate stakeholders to drive talent acquisition, employee relations, compliance, workforce development, and a high-performance culture. The Director serves as a trusted advisor to leaders, ensures consistent execution of HR programs, and strengthens engagement, retention, and operational effectiveness in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience with 5+ years supporting a manufacturing or industrial environment (required).
  • 3+ years of people leadership experience, including leading and developing HR professionals (required).
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with plant leadership and supporting hourly workforces, including shift-based operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law and compliance (wage and hour, FMLA, ADA, EEO), and familiarity with OSHA-related HR recordkeeping.
  • Proven track record driving talent acquisition, employee relations, and culture/engagement improvements in a manufacturing setting.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and problem-solving skills; able to navigate ambiguity and drive outcomes.
  • Experience partnering with cross border or international HR counterparts in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior HR leader for the Mills River manufacturing site; partner with Plant Manager and leadership team to align people strategy with business goals.
  • Lead and develop the on-site HR team (e.g., HR Generalist), building capability and accountability.
  • Own workforce planning and talent acquisition for hourly and salaried roles; improve hiring throughput, quality, and onboarding effectiveness.
  • Lead employee relations and performance management; coach leaders on progressive discipline, investigations, conflict resolution, and engagement actions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and manufacturing-specific requirements, including wage and hour, FMLA/ADA, EEO, and recordkeeping.
  • Oversee safety- and health-related HR compliance processes and reporting in partnership with EHS (e.g., OSHA recordkeeping/OSHA 300 logs).
  • Lead compensation, benefits, leave administration, and HR policy execution; ensure consistent, compliant, and employee-centered administration.
  • Drive training, workforce development, and leadership development programs for supervisors and managers; establish succession planning and internal talent pipelines.
  • Manage labor relations strategy where applicable; partner with leadership on communications, change management, and productivity initiatives.
  • Own HR metrics and analytics (turnover, time-to-fill, absenteeism, engagement, training completion, safety-related HR trends) and present insights and action plans to leaders.
  • Ensure HRIS and personnel record integrity; standardize processes and continuously improve HR operations and employee experience.
  • Establish standard operating procedures, templates, and documentation to support consistent HR execution across locations.
  • Partner with the Human Resources Manager in Mexico to align and benchmark HR systems, tools, and processes in support of corporate consistency.
  • Share best practices and facilitate adoption of common HR frameworks while respecting local laws and execution authority.
  • Support cross-border HR reporting, data consistency, and system integration.
  • Maintain regular communication and coordination with Mexico HR leadership to ensure alignment.
