About The Position

The ACLU of Northern California is an enduring guardian of justice, fairness, equality, and freedom, working to protect and advance civil rights and civil liberties for all Californians. We’re looking for a Human Resources Coordinator for our San Francisco office. This role is responsible for helping the Human Resources team maintain clean records, responding to staff inquiries in a timely manner, and generally supporting employees, prospective employees, and past employees throughout their time with the organization. You will play a key role in supporting employees, management, union processes, and Board committees, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance in a unionized environment. This position is an individual contributor, full-time, non-exempt, and does not supervise employee(s). As a confidential role it is not represented by our union bargaining unit. This position is expected to work onsite at the San Francisco office three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).

Requirements

  • 3+ years’ full-time human resources support experience.
  • Experience handling confidential and sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.
  • Experience managing a high volume of competing requests from employees, union representatives, management, and board members, while balancing customer service, empathy, responsiveness, and compliance.
  • Detail oriented and excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms and advanced Microsoft Office skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Human Resources Information System (HRIS), ensuring accuracy and integrity of data
  • Respond to inquiries from current and former staff and respond or route emails to the appropriate parties
  • Manage the provisional review process for all new hires
  • Provide general administrative support to the HR Manager and the Personnel Committee of the Board of Directors
  • Support the administration and application of collective agreements, policies, and procedures
  • Support recruitment processes beginning to end, including posting, scheduling interviews, checking references, and creating offer letters
  • Support staff through the onboarding process by ensuring they have received necessary orientation
  • Process offboarding paperwork, coordinate exit interviews, and update HRIS and other systems to reflect employee departures
  • Review timesheets in HRIS to ensure time is accurately entered and approved by managers on the designated timeline
  • Assist with benefit administration and open enrollment, including notifying carriers of new enrollments and terminations, and answering staff benefit questions
  • Special projects, research, and other duties as assigned.
