About The Position

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) at Stony Brook University is responsible for managing a wide range of HR functions, serving as the primary HR liaison to departments and providing consultative HR services to leaders and employees. This role involves aligning HR strategies with the university's goals, managing employee relations, and ensuring compliance with HR policies and collective bargaining agreements. The HRBP will also play a key role in workforce planning, recruitment, employee training, and HR compliance, while fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • Five (5) years of full-time, broad-based human resources experience.
  • Experience providing consultative services to senior leadership.
  • Experience implementing HR protocols and compliance.
  • Experience in liaising employee relation matters.
  • Experience with Applicant Tracking Systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • Two (2) years of full-time supervisory experience.
  • Professional HR certification (i.e., SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, HRCI, or PHR/SPHR).
  • Experience as an HR generalist or HR business partner.
  • Experience working with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
  • Knowledge of employment laws including Title VII, Title IX, ADA, ADEA, and others.
  • Experience in public sector employment and/or higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary HR liaison to department/VP area, providing consultative HR services and support.
  • Manage a broad range of human resources personnel functions, including employee relations and compliance with HR policies.
  • Collaborate with leadership to evaluate human capital and talent management needs.
  • Develop and administer faculty and staff recognition programs in collaboration with Central HR.
  • Provide guidance on organizational design and develop expertise in SUNY professional titles.
  • Utilize metrics and establish key performance indicators for HR management.
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition to ensure effective recruiting and onboarding of employees.
  • Develop and implement diversity recruiting strategies and plans.
  • Manage Tier 1 employee relations issues and conduct exit and stay interviews.
  • Create and manage orientation and onboarding workshops for new employees.
  • Ensure compliance with performance evaluations and other HR requirements.
