The Human Resources Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Human Resources Department by providing assistance to job applicants and current employees. This position involves maintaining the integrity of HR records, assisting with the hiring and onboarding processes, and performing various administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of HR functions.

  • Assist members of the public seeking employment with Ingham County.
  • Provide assistance to employees regarding key human resources service areas.
  • Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
  • Perform periodic audits of human resource files and records.
  • Prepare and maintain records, reports, and correspondence.
  • Schedule interviews and other appointments, and arrange meetings.
  • Create and maintain databases and handle confidential information.
  • Provide general administrative support for all functions in the Human Resources Department.
  • Track department budget and schedule training.
  • Process accounts payable, order department supplies, and pay invoices.
  • Verify employment status and process employment information documents.
  • Process department payroll and assist with the hiring and onboarding process.
  • Prepare and update personnel files and provide general administrative support across the department.
  • Answer frequently asked questions from applicants and employees.
  • Post job vacancies and manage the online applicant tracking system.
  • Participate in recruiting activities and develop recruiting strategies.
  • Prepare employment statistical data and other reports.
  • Assist applicants in navigating the online application process.
  • Coordinate the County-wide United Way campaign and other departmental events.
  • Facilitate the delivery of training by scheduling and reserving training rooms.
  • Check candidate's references and credentials, and perform background checks.
  • Coordinate the new hire onboarding process and schedule pre-employment medical testing.
  • Experience in human resources or administrative support roles.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Proficiency in using HRIS and applicant tracking systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with recruitment strategies and job fairs.
  • Familiarity with labor relations and union processes.
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations.
