About The Position

The Human Resources Assistant at the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) plays a crucial role in supporting the Human Resources department under the direction of the Director of Human Resources. This position serves as the first point of contact for all HR-related inquiries, providing excellent customer service to MTS employees, applicants, and guests. The HR Assistant is responsible for maintaining the Agency's electronic document management system, issuing identification cards, and administering the electronic keycard system. This role also involves a variety of administrative tasks that support the benefits, talent acquisition, and training teams within the department. The HR Assistant must demonstrate excellent judgment and maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive issues, such as updating personnel records and performing reference checks. In this position, the HR Assistant will serve as the receptionist for the Human Resources, Payroll, and Risk Departments, answering questions regarding hiring procedures, open positions, and MTS policies. The role includes assisting with data entry in the Agency's HRIS and online benefits systems, troubleshooting applicant issues, and managing correspondence related to recruitment. The HR Assistant will also assist with full-cycle recruitment for entry-level positions, including posting job openings, reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and scheduling background checks. Additionally, the HR Assistant will coordinate new-hire orientations and maintain accurate employee files in the document management system. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of MTS policies and regulations, as well as the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. The role requires a proactive approach to managing tasks and priorities, ensuring that all assignments are completed accurately and on time. The HR Assistant will also be involved in planning employee recognition functions and responding to public inquiries, making this a dynamic and engaging position within the MTS organization.
