About The Position

The Human Resources Assistant-Employee Relations serves as the primary contact for coaching, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions for employees at The Metropolitan Opera. This role involves maintaining records of disciplinary processes and collaborating with the labor relations and training departments to address employee concerns and enhance workplace communication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 1-2 years related experience in employee relations and conflict resolution
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; bilingual skills a plus
  • Capacity to use good judgment in assessing situations involving conflict
  • Ability to de-escalate emotionally charged situations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with other MS Office applications
  • Strong technological aptitude
  • Ability to work well in a high-pressure/fast-paced environment
  • Ability to handle a variety of personality types with poise and professionalism
  • Ability to learn and adapt to a changing work environment
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to work successfully both independently and as part of a team

Responsibilities

  • Act as the first contact for employees or managers expressing concerns and determine if an investigation or coaching is needed.
  • Conduct investigations into grievances and complaints, including workplace conflicts, harassment allegations, and policy violations.
  • Enforce progressive discipline and use good judgement around severity of issues, escalating to CHRO as required.
  • Advise managers and employees on company policies and procedures to ensure proper implementation and address concerns.
  • Partner with training to identify trends in employee relations and develop proactive strategies.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on workplace conflict resolution, anti-harassment policies, and effective communication.
  • Collaborate with management to address employee performance issues, including coaching and disciplinary actions.
  • Maintain excellent records of all employee relations conversations.
  • Draft communication, including discipline recommendations and investigation summaries.
