About The Position

The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, several scientific research cores, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future. This position is a member of the Waisman Center’s Administrative Core and is responsible for providing day-to-day support in Human Resources and Finance functions. This includes performing financial transactions involving purchasing, invoicing, reimbursements, and participant payments; and human resources transactions such as auditing and processing payroll, staffing transactions, and other general administrative responsibilities.

Requirements

  • One to two years of professional experience working in human resources, finance, and/or administration, preferably within a university environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Workday or other human resources and/or accounting systems.
  • Ability to exercise judgment, discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to use customer service techniques to respond to inquiries thoroughly and accurately while maintaining professionalism.
  • Attention to detail, effective time management, organizational and independent decision-making skills are essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of University of Wisconsin policies and procedures relating to human resources and business services.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes data and trends, compiles progress reports, and provides appropriate recommendations or conclusions in support of the assigned operational work unit(s)
  • Assists, recommends, and advises staff on unit or program administrative issues, personnel matters, and budgetary problems
  • Implements and executes established policies and procedures for a designated work unit to adhere to unit objectives and to align with established strategies
  • Serves on committees and attends meetings, representing the interests of the unit or program
  • Schedules logistics and secures resources for a designated work unit to contribute to the day-to-day operational success
