About the position

The Human Resource Manager at Hy-Vee is responsible for providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service while managing various HR functions. This includes updating the payroll system, counseling department heads and employees on performance reviews, personnel issues, scheduling, benefits, and wages. The HR Manager coordinates administrative duties such as recruiting, hiring, payroll, performance reviews, orientation, and employee counseling, working closely with store management to ensure maximum employee satisfaction and retention.

Responsibilities

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.
  • Coordinates the inputting, changing, and deleting of employee information in the Kronos system.
  • Counsels with department heads and employees regarding performance reviews, scheduling, benefits, wages, etc.
  • Handles and satisfies customer complaints, sends follow-up letters, and thank you letters.
  • Develops effective recruiting and retention programs to facilitate staffing of the store.
  • Facilitates the hiring process and may be involved in the interviewing and placement of specified positions.
  • Conducts orientation and trains new employees.
  • Conducts performance reviews and exit interviews.
  • Makes payroll adjustments including extra bonuses, missed pay raises, etc.
  • Transmits sales, hours, adjustments, and accounts receivable to corporate office on a weekly basis.
  • Records and follows up on Workers Compensation claims and issues.
  • Schedules employees as needed, honors employee time off requests, and replaces employees that call in.
  • Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.

Requirements

  • High school diploma plus 2-3 years of additional schooling in HR and Accounting.
  • Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to interview, counsel or advise people and evaluate data.
