About The Position

The Human Resource Generalist plays a vital role in managing staffing activities for the Sheriff's Office across four divisions. This position is responsible for overseeing the entire hiring process, serving as the primary contact for applicants, hiring managers, and Command Staff. The role requires a thorough understanding of human resource laws and policies, as well as strong communication and organizational skills to facilitate effective recruitment and onboarding processes.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree or higher in Human Resources, Business Management, or a related field.
  • Three or more years of progressively increasing responsibility and experience in administrative roles.
  • Experience with public safety or military personnel recruiting, benefits, and staffing is preferred.
  • Professional certification (PHR/SPHR or SHRM-SP/SHRM-SCP) is required or must be obtained within 12 months of placement.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Understand, interpret, and apply knowledge of Federal, State, and local human resource laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Answer questions and provide information to County employees, external agencies, and the general public regarding human resource programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Screen applications and update dispositions through the online applicant software, prepare hiring managers for interviews, and coordinate interview logistics.
  • Coordinate interviews and testing activities, including written, medical, and physical agility exams, and manage background investigations.
  • Communicate with applicants throughout the hiring process, including relocation assistance and scheduling appointments.
  • Conduct new employee orientation and ensure all necessary logistics are completed for new staff.
  • Review and submit required new employee paperwork in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Maintain personnel files for applicants and current employees.
  • Attend meetings, events, and trainings as required.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
