About The Position

The Human Resources Generalist at the Channel Islands YMCA is responsible for fostering staff development, ensuring compliance with HR laws and regulations, and maintaining accurate employee records. This role involves handling employee relations, providing counseling, and supporting branch leadership with staff performance matters. The Generalist will also review terminations for compliance, assist in training development, design new systems to streamline HR processes, and serve as a back-up for payroll. The position requires adherence to established procedures, policies, and safety standards, and a commitment to ethical and professional conduct. Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Knowledge of State and Federal HR laws
  • Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire
  • Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire
  • Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance
  • Maintain a valid California driver’s license, active participation in the California DMV Pull Program, an acceptable driving record and approval status as determined by the Channel Islands YMCA and/or its insurance carrier

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2+ years’ previous work-related experience
  • PHR/SPHR Certification

Responsibilities

  • Fosters the development of staff at all levels in the organization
  • Maintains updated Employee Handbook, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations related to human resources
  • Maintain accurate and updated files for all benefits, unemployment, LOA requests, worker’s comp claims, and any other areas required
  • Handles employee relations, counseling and supports branch leadership with staff performance matters
  • Review all terminations to ensure compliance with termination and off-boarding procedures
  • Assist department in training development and design of new systems to streamline HR processes
  • Serves as a back-up for payroll
  • Ensure compliance to established procedures, policies, and safety standards
  • Carry out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical and professional manner
  • Remain current with employment laws and regulations
  • Maintains an effective program of compliance with laws and regulations related to human resources and manages relationships with compliance agencies and YMCA legal counsel
  • Other duties as assigned in your specific HR area
