We are currently seeking a Human Factors Scientist for our Human Factors Practice to be based in our Bellevue, WA office. In this role, you will work as part of a team to apply your skills and knowledge of human factors issues such as attention and perception, sensorimotor control, and workload, and relate them to driver behavior, road system design, driver-vehicle interface evaluations, driver interactions with automated vehicles, and other related applications.

  • Managing, planning, and conducting human performance studies and tests with in-vehicle technologies in a range of environments, including test-tracks, simulators, and on-road driving
  • Reviewing and synthesizing research on driver behavior to develop design guidelines and other tools to support roadway design and traffic operations
  • Human factors reviews and analyses of user-interface designs and test procedures, including recommendations for design improvements
  • Managing a range of consulting activities that involve human factors in vehicle accidents and their prevention, including the limitations of human perceptual, motor, cognitive, and decision-making capabilities
  • Conducting hands-on inspections and analyzing human performance as it relates to vehicles and roadways to investigate accidents and injuries
  • Developing client contacts
  • Working on multi-disciplinary projects and providing case management, data processing, and other project support
  • Conducting research to obtain and review technical data, scientific literature, and standards
  • Participating in the design and evaluation of warnings and safety information
  • M.S/M.A. with at least five (5) years of relevant experience or Ph.D. in Human Factors, Engineering Psychology, Experimental, Industrial or Cognitive Psychology, Neuroscience, Kinesiology or other related discipline
  • Undergraduate degree in psychology, engineering, or a related discipline is a plus
  • Substantial record (publications, presentations) of applied research in driver behavior and performance
  • Proficiency in experimental design, human subjects testing, instrumentation, data analysis, and computer programming (e.g. Matlab, SAS, SPSS, Labview, etc.) a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills
  • Assertive, self-starter, and able to work with accuracy under pressure and/or deadlines
  • Currently based in or are willing to relocate to the Bellevue, WA area
