About The Position

The Human Factors Lead is responsible for evaluating technician workflows, conducting cognitive load assessments, and identifying error traps in documentation and execution. This role ensures that all redesigned documents and workflows reflect cognitive design and human factors engineering principles.

Requirements

  • Human factors engineering and cognitive load theory expertise.
  • Experience applying usability testing, cognitive walkthroughs, and task analysis.
  • Strong understanding of information-seeking behaviors and technician workflows.
  • Ability to translate observations into actionable design improvements.
  • Willing to travel US-East

Responsibilities

  • Lead Gemba observations, task analyses, and workflow studies to identify cognitive load drivers and error-prone steps.
  • Conduct cognitive load assessments, analyzing intrinsic, extraneous, and germane load across documentation and tasks.
  • Identify failure modes, handoffs, and usability gaps in high‑risk processes.
  • Support redesign teams with human‑centered insights and error-proofing recommendations.
  • Validate redesigned documents through usability testing, including think‑aloud protocols and pilot feedback.
