The College of Marin is seeking Full-time Faculty for courses in Human Communication, which provide an introductory-level study of public speaking, argument and persuasion, and interpersonal and intercultural communications. The curriculum is designed for students interested in marketing, public relations, communications, and to satisfy general education requirements. Faculty members are expected to advocate for students, inspire intellectual curiosity, and commit to equity and social justice. They should have experience educating diverse student populations and be willing to use innovative pedagogies and technology in their teaching.

  • Provide effective classroom and laboratory instruction using appropriate methods and materials.
  • Prepare and evaluate all class assignments and examinations.
  • Advise, assist, and evaluate student performance and learning outcomes.
  • Participate in program activities including curriculum development and evaluation.
  • Contribute to the development of program policies and procedures.
  • Participate in college professional or shared governance committees.
  • Maintain and post office hours.
  • Maintain and submit accurate student records in a timely manner.
  • Maintain currency and knowledge in assigned area of responsibility.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • A Master's degree in Speech, Speech Broadcasting, Telecommunications, Rhetoric, Communication, Communication Studies, Speech Communication, or Organizational Communication; OR
  • A Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND a Master's in Drama/Theater Arts, Mass Communication, or English; OR
  • The equivalent; AND
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Understanding equity as the recognition of historical and systemic disparities.
  • Ability to implement equity-based, student-centered strategies.
  • Experience teaching communication courses with a focus on rhetoric and public speaking.
  • Expertise in the Communication discipline, with specialization in rhetoric and speech communication.
  • Competencies in curriculum and course development, teaching and learning theory.
  • Familiarity with multiple teaching modalities and approaches.
  • Enthusiasm for continual professional learning and innovative teaching strategies.
  • Knowledge and experience with online pedagogy and technology.
  • Experience in a collaborative environment and providing mentoring.
  • Ability to navigate legislative changes impacting the Communication discipline.
