About The Position

The Akron Board of Education announces an opening for a Human Capital Specialist, Job Code 216, TS 522 (261 days), Salary Range TBD. This employee is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Human Capital Department with recruitment and retention efforts. The individual will have excellent communications (oral and written) skills and will actively engage and assist in developing and implementing a wide range of recruitment and retention strategies. The individual is responsible for effectively promoting APS through various online and offline marketing platforms to help attract, acquire and retain talent.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience in the field of recruitment and retention
  • Knowledge of human resources practices and procedures
  • Valid Ohio Driver's License
  • Must be willing to travel within and outside of Ohio to support the District's recruitment efforts

Responsibilities

  • Supports district-wide recruitment efforts, including the District's diversity recruitment initiatives
  • Assists in developing and implementing recruitment strategies
  • Develops and implements consistent messaging to ensure cohesive two-way communications with internal and external audiences
  • Assists in hiring process, including but not limited to, reviewing and screening job applications, and conducting interviews and reference checks
  • Assists in making recommendations for the employment and assignment of job candidates
  • Assist with providing valuable and engaging content for the district's website and social media that attracts and converts our target audience
  • Screens and submits items for School Board approval as required
  • Assist with annual teacher transfer process
  • Assist with organizing, coordinating and representing APS at job fairs, in state and out of state
  • Facilitates the hiring, transfer and assignment of staff in the appropriate classification
  • Prepares documentation for Board approval for new hires, reassignments, promotions, etc.
  • Uses independent judgment in establishing procedures and completing complex assignments
  • Builds strategic partnerships and engages collaboratively with local and out of state universities, agencies, and other employment and business players in activities that will promote the district
  • Ability to participate in weekend and evening activities to engage the community and potential candidates for hire
  • Assist with administering a wide variety of human capital policies and programs regarding substitute employees
  • Conducts new hire employee orientation, training and ongoing training
  • Works well with others within the organization to gather information and assist with hiring needs
  • Reports to and assumes any other responsibilities that may be assigned by department leads
