About The Position

The HSM Maintenance Manager is responsible for ensuring maximum equipment availability, reliability, and asset performance in a cost-effective manner. This role provides strategic and hands-on leadership to the HSM maintenance department through effective planning, coordination, budgeting, and continuous improvement. The position partners closely with operations, engineering, and reliability teams to minimize unplanned downtime, optimize maintenance practices, and support safe, stable, and efficient production.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related technical field, or a relevant trade certification with equivalent experience.
Minimum of seven (7) years of steel industry experience in a maintenance engineering or supervisory leadership role.
Recognized safety leader with a strong commitment to workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
Strong working knowledge of preventative and predictive maintenance systems and reliability-focused maintenance practices.
Proficiency with CMMS platforms (e.g., Maximo) and the ability to leverage maintenance data to drive performance.
Experience planning and executing capital projects, major repairs, and outage activities in a heavy industrial environment.
Project planning and execution skills, including capital work, outages, and resource coordination.
Solid capital budgeting, cost control, and financial acumen, including experience managing maintenance and capital budgets.
Demonstrated success in problem-solving, with the ability to influence, motivate, and lead teams toward operational excellence.
Effective communication skills across all organizational levels and with external partners and contractors.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage all HSM maintenance activities to maximize equipment reliability, availability, and lifecycle performance while controlling costs.
Establish and reinforce a strong safety culture by ensuring full compliance with plant safety standards, quality systems, housekeeping expectations, and regulatory requirements through visible leadership, training, and accountability.
Lead maintenance initiatives focused on reducing unplanned downtime, improving equipment reliability, and increasing performance of operating equipment.
Develop and improve maintenance practices and procedures to ensure optimal utilization of maintenance resources and materials while providing maximum equipment availability and reliability.
Direct the development and ongoing maintenance of a preventative maintenance program, inclusive of maintaining appropriate inventory levels of critical spare parts and materials to support maintenance execution and minimize risk to production.
Ensure timely, effective response to equipment breakdowns and coordinate expedited repairs to minimize production impact and restore operations safely.
Plan, coordinate, manage, and execute annual outage activities with a focus on reliability improvement, schedule adherence, and cost control.
Develop, manage, and execute annual maintenance budgets, including labor, materials, contractors, capital work, and critical spare parts inventory.
Initiate, plan, and coordinate capital project work on an annual basis to maintain and improve capital assets and operational stability.
Leverage CMMS systems (e.g., Maximo) to drive work management discipline, data-driven decision making, and maintenance performance improvement.
Lead, coach, and develop maintenance personnel through training, performance management, and succession planning, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Interview and select skilled trades, engineering, and supervisory personnel as needed to support departmental and organizational goals.
