SUMMARY: Under general supervision of Project Coordinating Supervisor, is responsible for maintaining adequate accessible inventory of housekeeping supplies and equipment. Distributes such items as necessary to units and to Housekeeping Aides for use in maintaining the Hospital in an orderly, sanitary and attractive fashion. Maintains machinery and equipment in a clean and safe working condition. Performs preventative maintenance on vacuum cleaners and buffing machines. Requisitions items from Stores Department and outside vendors, including soaps, disinfectants, mops and brushes. Contacts vendors to place orders covered by standing purchase orders. Receives and signs for order upend delivery. Enters and maintains inventory control records on microcomputer. Maintains Housekeeping machinery and equipment in clean and safe order. Performs preventative maintenance checks on vacuum cleaners and buffing machines, including lubrication, electrical system checks, testing and changing of batteries, tightening nuts and bolts, adjusting squeegee blades, and adjusting guards. Orders parts or arranges for servicing as necessary. Follows up on service contracts to ensure proper maintenance is provided. Receives broken furniture and makes minor repairs. Delivers more damaged furniture to Facilities Management and writes repair instructions on work order. Returns repaired items to units or stores as appropriate. Monitors exchange of clean and soiled items, such as mops, pillows and mattress panels between Laundry and Housekeeping departments, to ensure adequate supply of same. Delivers and sets up tables, chairs, blackboards, and the like as requested for special functions. Transports same as necessary when Facilities Management personnel are not available. Prepares and maintains records and work orders of such requests. Prepares solutions of soap, shampoos and germicidal detergents in correct dilution. Cleans mops and performs related housekeeping items. Issues keys and supplies to housekeeping Aides. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: High School education or equivalent with the ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions and decimals. Ability to use microcomputer to maintain inventory is required. Numerical and clerical ability to prepare inventory control records. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with vendor representatives and many levels of personnel within the Hospital. EXPERIENCE: Six to twelve months prior experience in a supply-related position as well as experience in preventative maintenance of vacuum cleaners, buffing machines and similar equipment.
