We are currently seeking a HSE Supervisor to support our QEII project in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The QEII Halifax Infirmary Expansion Program (HIEP) is a 1.2 million square foot expansion of the Province of Nova Scotia’s existing QEII campus being completed under a complex P3 contract structure. PCL Constructors Canada Inc. is collaborating with multiple partners from across the country to undertake the single largest healthcare infrastructure project considered in Nova Scotia. As a HSE Supervisor for PCL Constructors Canada Inc. in Halifax, Nova Scotia, you'll have the opportunity to monitor and advise field activity compliance with multiple safety management systems (SMS) and legislative regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Preference will be given to those who hold, or are currently enrolled in a post-secondary certificate, diploma, or bachelors degree program in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Holds safety designation.
  • 5 years’ experience in a health and safety role in a related industry. Previous experience in a supervisory role an asset.
  • Solid understanding of applicable OH&S and environmental legislation and HSE processes.
  • Conflict resolution skills, with the ability to problem-solve.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop, influence, and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction processes and terminology.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a supervisory role an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Implements and supports project HSE plans, regulatory requirements, and other safe work practices.
  • Identifies, evaluates, develops and delivers project specific HSE training.
  • Implements district HSE communication strategies on projects.
  • Recognizes, evaluates, and advises on hazard identification.
  • Leads and conducts project HSE inspections and monitors the quality and effectiveness of inspections and trade safety plans.
  • Develops and evaluates efficiency of the project emergency response plan, site-specific security requirements and the environmental plan.
  • Monitors and audits trade contractor HSE performance.
  • Participates in on-site investigative processes and evaluating corrective actions taken.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Coaches, trains and mentors HSE Coordinators and other employees.
