The HSE Supervisor plays a key role in supporting the implementation and maintenance of Health, Safety, and Environmental programs at the site level. Reporting under the plant manager and working under the guidance of the Regional HSE Manager, this position collaborates closely with the site management team to help execute initiatives that align with regulatory requirements and corporate standards. The HSE Supervisor contributes to the development of site-specific policies, supports incident investigations, assists with permit applications and environmental reporting, and helps maintain compliance to global HSE Management system and standards framework. This role also supports the tracking of HSE metrics and participates in audits, inspections, and continuous improvement efforts. In addition to technical responsibilities, the HSE Supervisor actively promotes a culture of safety and environmental awareness through training, coaching, and employee engagement. The role involves hands-on support in daily operations, helping to identify risks and implement practical solutions to prevent incidents and ensure regulatory compliance. The HSE Supervisor also contributes to external communications with regulatory bodies and certification agencies, and partners with other sites to share best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an HSE role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Capable of making strategic compliance decisions autonomously from site operations.
  • Ability to make key compliance decisions independent of site management.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic understanding of HSE regulations (OSHA, EPA, NYSDEC) and environmental permitting processes.
  • Ability to conduct inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HSE data management systems.
  • Knowledge of emergency response protocols and safety equipment.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Safety or environmental certification (e.g., ASP) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) programs in coordination with Supply Chain, Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and R&D teams.
  • Lead Site Safety Governance: Serve as the primary authority on regulatory compliance, empowered to make critical operational decisions including halting site activities when safety or legal standards are compromised. Act as the final decision-maker in resolving complex compliance issues in collaboration with site leadership.
  • Regulatory Liaison and Advocacy: Represent the organization in high-level engagements with regulatory bodies, proactively addressing legislative developments and advocating for industry best practices and company interests.
  • Incident Command and Resolution: Take full ownership of safety non-compliance events, leading root cause investigations, corrective action planning, and cross-functional coordination to ensure resolution and future risk mitigation.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of site-level HSE policies and procedures based on local regulations and corporate requirements.
  • Help align site HSE initiatives with broader business goals and track progress using established metrics.
  • Maintain and support HSE Management Systems and HSE standards; participate in continuous improvement efforts.
  • Assist in preparing permit applications, environmental reports, and internal assessments.
  • Conduct and support internal audits and inspections; assist in implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Promote a culture of health, safety and environmental awareness through training, coaching, and active engagement with site teams.
  • Collaborate with other sites to share and adopt best practices.
