About The Position

The HSE Specialist supports the HSE departmental goals, HSE personnel, and the company’s management teams. The position is responsible for upholding best practices in safety and the environment and developing program plans to support overall G&H HSE goals, mission, and vision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Working knowledge of 46 CFR Subchapter M and 29 CFR 1910
  • Familiarity with the Clean Water Act, vessel general permits, and stormwater pollution prevention plans
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Requires proficiency with computer hardware and software to include Microsoft Office applications, using a computer with a keyboard and mouse, navigation with a web browser, checking and sending email, and use of internet search engines
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the maritime industry
  • Active and valid Texas driver's license
  • Active and valid Transportation Identification Workers Credential (TWIC)
  • Experience implementing HSE standards
  • Able to work independently as a self-starter to further the HSE’s departmental goals
  • Problem-solver who can collaborate with the HSE team to reach departmental goals
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with personnel and stakeholders
  • Trained in incident investigations, or able to obtain training within 6 months of hire
  • Ability to always communicate effectively and professionally
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters and areas of the organization
  • Ability to manage multiple demands simultaneously while maintaining service standards
  • Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance

Responsibilities

  • Conducts HSE inspections of all vessels, and facilities generate inspection reports, and works interdepartmentally to achieve corrective action
  • Conducts incident investigations as assigned
  • Deliver HSE-related training
  • Manage Safety Management System databases
  • Managing safety data sheet online database
  • Program coordinator for the following:
  • Hearing protection program
  • Respiratory protection program
  • Bloodborne pathogen program
  • Crane, Forklift, Vehicle inspection program
  • Serves as safety point-of-contact (POC) as required
  • Upholds and enforces all aspects of the Towing Safety Management System.
