We are seeking an HSE Manager to lead and promote a safety culture, develop and administer HSE programs, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations for our Kalamazoo, MI site.

  • Promote a safety culture in line with Syensqo values and manufacturing objectives
  • Field presence to interact with site employees and address health, safety and security concerns, including training and coaching employees on our H&S culture and programs. Lead by example.
  • Develop short-term and long-term HSE plans. Create, direct, and administer site HSE programs to deliver the site's HSE performance goals.
  • Maintain and update site HSE procedures
  • Prepare & submit contractor provided environmental reports in compliance with our Environmental Operating Permits. Maintain environmental records.
  • Oversee the Site HSE training to meet regulatory and corporate standards. Determine appropriate HSE training for facility and support facilities regards to HSE.
  • Report HSE data as required by Corporate, GBU, Functions, or Region
  • Maintain the site IH monitoring program and Critical Task Analysis (CTAs) as well as other safety programs. Manage and maintain the site capabilities in the areas of emergency response and transportation incidents. Lead/support HSE incident investigations. Problem-solve and determine root causes as they pertain to safety issues. Review/approve Management of Change requests as they relate to HSE risks.
  • Serve as site MOC champion
  • Facilitate and serve as primary point of contact (host) of regulatory, corporate, or HSE Management System audits.
  • Monitor environmental aspects (removal waste, work with environmental contractor to file reports, etc.)
  • Monitor regulatory activities to maintain compliance and determine impact of proposed regulations on site operation.
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, chemical engineering or safety management (or comparable)
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in the Chemical Industry, being comfortable working in a research center environment
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification is preferred
  • Knowledgeable of Process Safety Management (PSM) and RC14001 is preferred
  • An experience in transversal management would be appreciated
  • Strong verbal, written, and listening communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, collaboration with multiple levels of the organization
