About The Position

The HSE Manager at WES Construction is a high impact role responsible for owning and advancing our health, safety, and environmental program across construction operations. This is a hands on, field-oriented position where you will divide your time between developing and improving safety policies and procedures and getting out to our active project sites to conduct audits, deliver training, and work directly alongside our crews. You will report to the General Manager and have the authority, resources, and trust to drive a zero-incident culture throughout the organization. As HSE Manager at WES Construction Corp., you will take ownership of our safety program.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of HSE experience, with at least 3 years in civil construction or infrastructure construction.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification and a thorough working knowledge of federal OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and Massachusetts state safety regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting field safety audits, job hazard analyses, and incident root cause investigations.
  • The ability to design and deliver effective, engaging safety training to field crews and supervisors.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence safety culture and build credibility on active job sites.

Nice To Haves

  • A proven track record of building, improving, and sustaining safety programs in a construction environment is a plus.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) designation is a strong plus.
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with SWPPP and Massachusetts DEP environmental compliance requirements is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Partnering with the General Manager on developing, improving, and maintaining the company wide HSE management system and standard operating procedures.
  • Conducting regular field audits across all active civil construction project sites to verify safe work practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Performing job hazard analyses and pre-task planning reviews with field crews and project superintendents.
  • Designing and delivering safety training programs including OSHA certifications, equipment specific training, toolbox talks, and new hire orientations.
  • Leading thorough incident and near miss investigations, performing root cause analysis, and driving corrective actions.
  • Overseeing stormwater management plans (SWPPP), erosion and sediment control, and environmental compliance on active project sites.
  • Reviewing and approving subcontractor safety plans and monitoring subcontractor safety performance in the field.
  • Staying current with federal OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and Massachusetts state safety regulations to proactively keep company procedures up to date.
  • Participating in preconstruction planning meetings and project kickoffs to integrate safety into project execution from day one.
