About The Position

Job Description Title: Senior High Day and/or Night Engineer (Group 8) Reports to: Maintenance Manager General Summary: Employees in this job classification perform various duties requiring moderate physical strength. Typical routine duties include, but are not restricted to: troubleshooting, analyzing, and repairing malfunctions associated with the building equipment; assists with the completion of the building’s preventive maintenance program for the High School; maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and parts; identifies and acquires replacement parts; maintains relevant up-to-date records; coordinates servicing activities of others; performs preventive maintenance inspections; and performs servicing routines on building equipment.

Requirements

  • Education Level: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification/Licensure: Formal training in HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, and electrical systems is required o r an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License and meet all District requirements for driving school district vehicles
  • City of Omaha Grade III Engineer’s License is required or will be acquired within 18 months of assignment.
  • A swimming pool operator’s certificate is required or will be acquired within 6 months of assignment.
  • EPA Refrigerant Handling certification is preferred.
  • Must keep licenses up to date by taking the required annual training.
  • Experience Desired: Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
  • Be willing to enroll in classes for basic electrical, plumbing, and HVAC if the desired level of experience needs to be achieved.
  • Other Requirements: Work overtime as required.
  • Ability to demonstrate desirable working relationships and work habits.
  • Ability to implement and complete the mechanical maintenance program on a building level.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting working drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and make repairs on various types of HVAC systems and controls, plumbing systems, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate personnel engaged in maintenance work.
  • Ability to set-up and maintain parts inventory and records..
  • Presents a neat and clean appearance.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in cramped crawl spaces and to work off ladders and lifts.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrates on-the-job advanced knowledge of, and able to troubleshoot, analyze, and solve complex problems associated with the following: Electrical installations, electronic controls, and electrical codes; heating systems; refrigeration systems, pneumatic controls; and plumbing systems.
  • Successfully completes assigned training courses or seminars in HVAC, phone, intercom, energy management, and clock systems.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots, analyzes, services, and repairs equipment, including, but not limited to: HVAC, mechanical, electrical, Building Management Systems, plumbing, and equipment.
  • Completes work order requisitions, changing filters, maintaining equipment, supplies, and inventory.
  • Test the water for the cooling loop, heating loop, and pool to ensure proper balances of chemicals.
  • Assists with the supervision of and provides technical assistance to building personnel.
  • Assists with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the preventive maintenance program for the building.
  • Service and maintain swimming pool equipment and the chemical condition of pool water.
  • Maintains appropriate paperwork and prepares reports as needed.
  • Aid with the set-up for meetings, dances, athletics, and activities; installation or repair of miscellaneous items that may be used in schools, such as weather stations, athletic equipment, and industrial arts equipment.
  • Conducts and attends in-service programs.
  • Is able to react to change and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
