About The Position

The Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach is responsible for organizing and supervising the entire sports program while also holding a teaching position. The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of basketball and continue to explore new theories and procedures relevant to the sport. This role requires serving as a role model for student athletes, promoting character development, self-discipline, and self-confidence. The coach will also be involved in upgrading their knowledge and skills through various professional development opportunities.

Requirements

• Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Previous successful coaching experience in basketball.
• Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of basketball.
• Ability to serve as a role model for student athletes.

Responsibilities

• Organize and supervise the total sports program.
• Implement athletic policies approved by the Plainwell Community Schools' Board of Education.
• Ensure compliance with existing system, state, and league regulations.
• Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff.
• Train and inform staff, encouraging professional growth.
• Delegate specific duties and supervise implementation.
• Maintain discipline and work to increase morale and cooperation.
• Assist the athletic director in scheduling and transportation for events.
• Provide documentation for state and system requirements.
• Serve as a mentor to promote character traits in student athletes.
• Monitor student athletes' grades and conduct.
• Complete paperwork on athletic injuries and submit to the athletic office.
• Participate in budgeting and equipment management.
• Organize preseason meetings with parents, coaches, and players.
• Promote the sport within and outside the school.
