About The Position

This role will be responsible for managing various HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, labor compliance and administration, employee discipline and mediation, worker's compensation, unemployment, and safety records management. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a thorough understanding of HR policies and regulations, and the ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels. As a member of a two-person department, you will provide back-up to the HR Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Education, Administration, or a business-related field preferred. 5 years of direct HR experience allowed in lieu of Bachelor’s degree.
  • 2+ years of experience in HR roles with a focus on recruitment, onboarding, labor compliance, worker's compensation, unemployment, and safety records management.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in HRIS software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract qualified candidates.
  • Source candidates through online job boards, social media platforms, and networking events.
  • Screen resumes, conduct interviews, and coordinate the selection process with hiring managers.
  • Prepare employment contracts.
  • Create new job descriptions and ensure existing job descriptions are current and meet the needs of the company.
  • Maintain accurate records of applicants and ensure compliance with equal employment opportunity regulations.
  • Facilitate the onboarding process for new hires, including preparing offer letters, conducting orientation sessions, and coordinating training programs.
  • Ensure all required paperwork, such as employment contracts and benefits enrollment forms, are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a point of contact for new employees, addressing any questions or concerns they may have during their onboarding process.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and legal requirements in all disciplinary actions.
  • Communicate directly with HR Manager regarding all employee discipline.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into employee misconduct allegations, gathering relevant evidence and statements.
  • Assess the severity of policy violations and recommend appropriate disciplinary measures to the Management Team, ranging from verbal warnings to termination, based on company guidelines and precedent.
  • Provide guidance to managers on selecting and implementing the most suitable disciplinary actions for specific situations.
  • Mediate disputes and conflicts between employees when necessary, striving to find mutually agreeable resolutions.
  • Coach managers on conflict resolution techniques and effective communication strategies to prevent escalation of disciplinary issues.
  • Manage worker's compensation claims process, including reporting incidents, coordinating medical treatment, and communicating with insurance carriers.
  • Serve as a liaison between injured employees, healthcare providers, and insurance representatives to facilitate the claims resolution process.
  • Monitor and track return-to-work programs for injured employees to ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Process unemployment claims and respond to requests for information from state unemployment agencies.
  • Conduct investigations and gather documentation to prepare for unemployment hearings, as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of unemployment claims and appeals.
  • Oversee the maintenance of safety records and documentation in compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Coordinate safety training programs for employees and ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular audits to identify safety hazards and implement corrective actions to prevent workplace injuries.
  • Acquire sufficient knowledge to serve as backup to the HR Manager in payroll processing and benefits administration.
  • Conduct the entire payroll process once per quarter to ensure a solid knowledge base of the procedure.
  • Safety Records: report of workplace injuries, near misses, and updates on worker’s compensation claims.
  • Training Records: report of scheduled trainings, employees who are deficient in training, etc.
  • Cost per Ton Reports: report of labor cost in relation to production output.
  • All other duties as assigned
