About The Position

A.I.S., Inc. (AIS) is a national scientific services firm supporting maritime activities requiring certification of compliance with environmental regulations as well as collecting data for use by Federal, State, Municipal, and other government agencies along the US coastline. Primary Functions: The HR Manager supports employees and managers across a geographically spread workforce. This role handles daily HR issues, makes sure the company follows labor laws, and helps managers do a better job leading their teams. The HR Manager is the primary contact for employee relations, performance issues, benefits, worker’s compensation, and company policies. The selected individual will utilize metrics to measure success, identify trends and analyze systemic issues to develop solutions for HR related challenges. Other areas of responsibility include partnering with the Talent Acquisition Department to drive retention efforts. The selected candidate must be comfortable designing and deploying data-driven solutions that are efficient, effective, and flexible.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in Human Resources or Labor and Employee Relations.
  • Experience administrating Service Contract Act (SCA) compliant government contracts.
  • Experience in government contracting and ADP is required.
  • Experience with FECA.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships, collaborate with others, engage in constructive conflict, and manage interpersonal dynamics.
  • Demonstrated decision-making, strong judgment, strong oral and written communication, and business acumen.
  • Demonstrated systems thinking approach with the ability to identify opportunities for HR to engage effectively with senior leadership on strategic initiatives.
  • Must be able to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • 6+ years of experience in Human Resources or Labor and Employee Relations.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with specialization in HR.
  • SHRM_CP or SHRM SCP certification
  • Experience performing HR functions to a workforce engaged in government contracting, providing scientific services and/or performing work in the marine and coastal environments.
  • Labor Relations experience, knowledge and understanding.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting managers with the employee performance evaluation process, goal setting, and coaching for optimal performance.
  • Advise employees and managers on employee relations issues, including performance concerns, conflict resolution, and grievances.
  • Manage employee investigations related to complaints, misconduct, or legal matters, ensuring appropriate and compliant outcomes.
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims and coordinate with insurance providers through resolution.
  • Provide responsive, customer-focused HR support to managers and internal teams.
  • Administer benefits and act as an advocate with benefits provider, educate employees on benefits and compensation practices.
  • Understand complex labor laws as they apply to the unique aspects of A.I.S. business and monitor employee compliance.
  • Adhere to strict confidentiality rules.
  • Develop, update, and communicate HR policies, procedures, and the employee handbook, ensure consistent application and confidentiality.
  • Developing employee compensation metrics and benchmarking.
  • Oversee visa and immigration processes for foreign employees, ensuring legal compliance.
  • Design and oversee employee training and development programs, including technical and professional skills.
  • Lead and support the HR Generalist to ensure effective daily HR operations, including onboarding, employee relations, and compliance.
  • Maintain professional certifications.
