About The Position

The Human Resources Manager will lead the HR department at the Battle Creek, MI mill, serving as a trusted advisor to employees and management. This role focuses on providing comprehensive HR support, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, managing labor relations, and leading training and development initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HR functions, particularly in labor relations, and will play a crucial role in fostering a harmonious work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in Human Resources, focusing on labor relations, workforce planning, and payroll management.
  • Prior experience in a labor union environment required.
  • HR certification preferred (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR or SHRM-SCP, SPHR).
  • Strong knowledge of HR laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and timekeeping systems.
  • Experience in conducting investigations and resolving employee relations issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High proficiency in MS Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive HR support to employees and management, acting as a point of contact for all HR-related inquiries.
  • Demonstrate compliance with all applicable local, State and Federal Laws including EEO, FMLA, HIPAA, ADA, and the Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for labor relations, managing the grievance process and assisting with labor union contract negotiations.
  • Lead training and development for hourly and salary employees, including the hourly operator training program and maintenance development program.
  • Conduct effective investigations into employee complaints, conflicts, and disciplinary issues, ensuring fair outcomes.
  • Coach and advise front-line employees and managers regarding employee relations policies and contractual labor agreements interpretation.
  • Assist with the ADA interactive process and collaborate with Medical and HR staff regarding leave management.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to manage the workforce plan, including recruitment and onboarding.
  • Oversee the hourly payroll process to ensure accurate and timely payments of wages.
  • Collaborate with HR leadership to design and deliver training programs on various topics.
  • Assist with the performance management process and activities, including goal setting and performance appraisals.
  • Assist with annual benefits enrollment and other HR programs.
  • Support local co-op and campus recruiting programs by partnering with universities.
  • Maintain records and confidential employee files, providing monthly statistical and regulatory reporting.
