About The Position

The HR Generalist is responsible for providing day-to-day human resource support while managing the administration of the human resources policies, procedures and programs to the operation(s) in which they are assigned to. The HR Generalist carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: recruiting, onboarding, administration of Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), employee relations, training and development, benefit administration, compensation administration, organizational development, and compliance. The HR Generalist also serves as liaison between employees and managers, balancing the needs of both parties with the overall goals of the organization.

Requirements

  • Qualified candidates will an Associate’s Degree in Human Resources or Business Administration; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • 5+ years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of human resources practices and administration in claim management
  • Excellent analytical, cognitive and problem solving skills
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining attention to details
  • Excellent verbal and written skills; superior PC, Windows and MS Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
  • Experience with data entry, running queries and creating reports using HRIS/Database software
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, team environment; demonstrated ability to work with highly confidential information
  • A willingness to try new approaches and learn new things
  • Union experience involving grievance handling, key assistance in contract negotiations
  • Positive and proactive attitude with ability to address issues and implement solutions
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Excellent facilitation and conflict resolution skills
  • Able to travel as required
  • Fluency in oral and written English
  • Knowledge of human capital management
  • Demonstrated expertise in labor and employees relations, contract negotiation, and performs well working in a union environment
  • Demonstrated ability to assess organizational and people issues, provide coaching and mentoring, and deliver solutions that improve facility performance
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law
  • Strong knowledge of benefits administration and compensation
  • Possesses exceptional knowledge of employment laws that have an impact on the company and employees
  • Possesses knowledge of organizational development and design concepts
  • Establishes and maintains highly productive working relationships across the organization with all groups within the region and the company; demonstrating respect for conflicting points of view, listens to others, and builds strong working relationships
  • Effectively use change management techniques to facilitate change within the region overcoming barriers and obstacles to change
  • Demonstrated capability to perform labor negotiations and establish excellent labor relations with the bargaining units
  • Possesses experience in facilitating groups and giving presentations to all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts and use conflict resolution techniques and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to assess organizational and people issues, provide coaching and mentoring, and deliver solutions that improve organizational performance
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills

Responsibilities

  • Administer human resources policies, procedures and programs for company personnel
  • Assist with recruitment efforts including: job posting, interviews, and new hire processes
  • Administer compensation programs for assigned group(s)
  • Responsible for labor relation activities including: compliance with CBA, language clarification, grievance processing, negotiation preparation, etc.
  • Facilitates the resolution of employee relations issues between employees and management
  • Collaborates with HR team in the development and implementation of all aspects of performance management - coaching and counseling, disciplinary actions, improvements to performance and productivity, annual reviews, exit interviews, etc.
  • Maintain programs, reports, logs and procedures as required to ensure compliance with state and federal employment regulatory agencies (DOL, EEOC, NRLB, etc.)
  • Train and coach personnel as required
  • Administration of Human Resource Information Systems (SAP HCM); provide training and trouble as required.
  • Participate in administrative staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars as required
  • Maintain company organization charts and employee files
  • Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed
  • Partner with Health & Safety to maintain, processes and files disability and workers compensation documentation
  • Support Health & Safety Manager and Operations personnel with safety initiatives
  • Assist with training initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned
