About The Position

The HR Employment Operations Staff Analyst Trainee position at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is designed for entry-level candidates to assist in employment-related activities. The role involves coordinating hiring processes, ensuring compliance with regulations, and collaborating with various city agencies. The trainee will also analyze candidate lists and assist in hiring decisions, contributing to the overall efficiency of the HR Employment Operations team.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; or
  • An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in relevant areas; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory full-time professional experience; or
  • A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to the above.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Civil Service Rules and Regulations.
  • Familiarity with NYCT processes and procedures.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Handle all employment-related activities for candidates being considered for appointment or promotion.
  • Coordinate hiring pools and review pre-employment documentation for eligibility compliance.
  • Interview and process candidates for employment.
  • Collaborate with the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) and other city agencies on civil service transactions.
  • Manage civil service lists to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Conduct analyses of eligible candidate lists and prepare reports to assist hiring departments.
  • Track and monitor departmental hiring approvals to ensure vacancies are filled according to the hiring plan.
  • Facilitate the resolution of concerns and issues among operating departments and HR subdivisions.
