About The Position

The HR Director, Investigations is a senior individual contributor responsible for leading complex and high-risk employment investigations across a multi-state organization. Reporting to the SVP, Human Resources, with a dotted line to the SVP, Employment Counsel, this role serves as the enterprise lead for sensitive workplace investigations, ensuring fair, thorough, and legally sound investigative processes. This role requires extensive travel (up to 50%) to conduct in-person investigations and support location-level teams. Candidates must reside near a major regional airport hub to ensure efficient national travel. The ideal candidate is highly objective, exceptionally detail-oriented, and a strong communicator capable of navigating complex matters with discretion and professionalism.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; HR certification preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience with significant focus on workplace investigations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, multi-state employment investigations.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws.
  • Experience partnering closely with Legal teams.
  • Exceptional interview, analytical, and documentation skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of discretion, neutrality, and professional judgment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex and high-risk employment investigations across multiple lines of business.
  • Conduct investigations involving allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, wage & hour concerns, and policy violations.
  • Develop investigation plans, conduct interviews, review documentation, and prepare detailed, defensible investigative reports.
  • Ensure investigations comply with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Partner closely with the SVP, Employment Counsel on legally sensitive matters.
  • Provide guidance to Regional HRBPs and HR Leadership on investigation protocols and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Identify recurring themes or systemic risks and partner with HR Director, Compliance & Audit and Senior Manager, HR Training to drive corrective action and training initiatives.
  • Support agency responses (EEOC, state agencies) as needed.
  • Continuously improve investigation processes, documentation standards, and reporting tools.
  • Utilize Workday data and reporting to support investigation documentation and trend analysis.
  • Oversee or review concerns raised through the Speak Up (ethics hotline) platform and ensure appropriate follow-up and documentation.
