The HR Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of HR policies and managing various HR functions, including employee relations, benefits administration, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have experience in HR operations, particularly in union environments, and will be dedicated to fostering a positive workplace. This position requires a proactive, organized, and detail-oriented individual who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about aligning HR initiatives with business objectives.

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of HR systems to ensure management has accurate and timely information.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on HR activities, including employee metrics, benefits, and payroll processing.
  • Represent the organization at personnel hearings and investigations as needed.
  • Serve as a key resource for managers and employees in understanding HR policies, labor laws, and company procedures.
  • Participate in employee relations investigations, addressing concerns, complaints, and disciplinary actions.
  • Advise on compliance with labor contracts and support labor negotiations.
  • Support payroll processing and manage systems such as ADP, Kronos, and SAP.
  • Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance and 401(k).
  • Oversee the coordination of annual open enrollment and process changes in coverage.
  • Assist with compensation planning and benefit strategy implementation.
  • Manage employee leave programs, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Support recruitment efforts by assisting with job postings and interviewing candidates.
  • Facilitate new employee onboarding and orientation programs.
  • Ensure all personnel records are complete and comply with retention policies.
  • Assist in implementing procedures for record retention and compliance with labor laws.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating employee training programs and development initiatives.
  • Maintain up-to-date safety training certifications and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Coordinate employee engagement initiatives and recognition programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in human resources, focusing on generalist responsibilities.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) preferred.
  • 3-4 years of experience working in a unionized environment is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HR policies, labor laws, and employee relations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and tools, such as ADP, SAP, or Kronos.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in labor negotiations.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and ADA requirements.
  • Pay range of $30.00 - $38.00 per hour.
