The Senior Academic Advisor provides comprehensive support to FTIC, transfer, and non-traditional students within the College of Health & Public Service. This role involves guiding students through degree requirements, course planning and graduation processes while promoting student engagement and academic success. The advisor serves as a subject matter expert for specialized majors, supports curriculum development and collaborates with college leadership to implement advising initiatives and ensure alignment with institutional policies. This position also contributes to advisor training, quality assurance and strategic efforts to meet targeted student outcomes.

  • Provides high-level academic advising to FTIC (First Time in College), transfer, and non-traditional students.
  • Promotes student engagement and self-efficacy alongside degree program and career guidance.
  • Manages the student lifecycle from enrollment through career establishment.
  • Serves as a resource for other advisors in navigating complex advising scenarios.
  • Applies specialized knowledge to meet institutional mandates for targeted student populations and achieves designated outcomes.
  • Coordinates and supports training initiatives for advisors and departmental staff.
  • Oversees the execution of assigned advising initiatives, including group advising sessions and new student orientation planning.
  • Conducts quality checks on advising-related projects and outcomes.
  • Collaborates with HPS leadership to produce academic documents and structured academic plans.
  • Bachelor's Degree and four years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, or professional academic advising.
  • Strong presentation, conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in academic advising and career outcomes.
  • Thorough knowledge of university policies and procedures.
  • Competent in integrating and analyzing complex information to produce actionable reports.
  • Extensive experience and advanced knowledge of student advising practices.
  • Ability to effectively interpret and communicate academic information across a wide range of majors and disciplines.
  • In-depth understanding of degree programs with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, along with proven self-direction, managerial and supervisory capabilities.
