About The Position

About the HOX Swim Team: The HOX Swim Team is a premier recreational swim program based at Blackhawk Country Club, serving over 240 swimmers each season. Our team culture is built on excellence, positivity, and fun—we believe in developing not just fast swimmers, but confident, resilient young people. As an Assistant Coach, you’ll be part of a dynamic and supportive coaching staff committed to inspiring swimmers of all levels to reach their potential. Position Summary: We are seeking enthusiastic and experienced assistant swim coaches to join our team for the 2026 season. Assistant Coaches play a critical role in delivering high-quality practices, supporting athlete development, and contributing to our team’s positive environment. This is an excellent opportunity for passionate coaches who love working with kids and thrive in a collaborative team setting.

Requirements

  • Previous experience coaching or teaching swimming (recreational or competitive)
  • Strong knowledge of stroke technique and swimmer development
  • Positive, energetic, and dependable
  • Ability to connect with and motivate young swimmers
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certified (or willingness to obtain)
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and move on the pool deck for extended periods of time (up to 4+ hours).
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, crouch, and occasionally lift or move items up to 25 pounds (e.g., lane lines, kickboards, timing equipment).
  • Visual acuity and hearing ability are required to observe swimmer technique and ensure safety.
  • Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations, including entering the water if necessary.
  • Coaches must be prepared to work in various weather conditions, including sun, wind, and cooler temperatures.
  • Coaches should dress appropriately for working in hot summer days and chilly spring evenings.
  • A high level of professionalism, clear communication, and team-oriented attitude is essential.
  • Strict adherence to aquatic safety and emergency procedures is required at all times.
  • Coaches are responsible for maintaining a vigilant presence on deck and reporting any safety or facility concerns promptly.

  • USA Swimming or equivalent certifications preferred (we can help guide certification if needed)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in leading swim practices for assigned age groups (ages 5–18)
  • Provide constructive technique instruction and positive reinforcement
  • Support meet-day operations, warm-ups, and races
  • Foster a positive team culture in line with HOX values: sportsmanship, dedication, and fun
  • Collaborate with head coach and other staff to ensure safety, engagement, and consistency
  • Attend team events, practices, and meets as scheduled (including weekends during meet season)
