About The Position

Hope House, a Preble Street low-barrier shelter located in Bangor, Maine, provides shelter and intensive services to individuals experiencing homelessness in a 24-hour trauma-informed environment grounded in social work best practices. As a member of the Hope House Management Team, the Hope House Housing Supervisor ensures the provision of high-quality services in alignment with the agency mission through the supervision of the direct-service team, functional management of the program, leadership in program activities, and provision of direct services to clients. This position oversees the housing team and supports the Program Director through participation in program development and evaluation, resource and systems development, community relations, and grants management. It also supports casework and client support staff in delivering community integration, individualized supportive services, and housing navigation Population Served: Individuals who are experiencing homelessness

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field, along with experience in direct service provision to people experiencing homelessness, is required. A comparable combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Required skills and knowledge include an understanding of the Preble Street mission and harm reduction, as well as a positive regard for individuals experiencing homelessness and/or living in poverty.
  • Candidates must have effective crisis intervention skills and maintain a working knowledge of the needs of vulnerable populations, including individuals with substance use disorders, mental illness, and histories of trauma.
  • In addition, this position requires the ability to lead shifts and manage the program environment, facilitate community-building activities, coordinate service provision, ensure staff coverage, and oversee transition activities to maintain a safe and supportive space.
