About The Position

S:US is seeking a Housing Specialist for their Families with Children shelter located in the Bronx. The role involves assessing clients' housing needs, providing resources, and acting as a liaison between clients and landlords. The Housing Specialist will also facilitate housing applications and assist clients in navigating social services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Two years of experience in the human services field.
  • Knowledge of trauma and housing programs such as Section 8.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Interview clients to assess their present housing needs and status and submit appropriate applications to community resources.
  • Conduct groups to discuss available housing options, how to secure an apartment, and how to handle issues related to housing.
  • Accompany residents to housing interviews, housing fairs, and assist in completing housing applications when necessary.
  • Provide housing resources to clients and act as a liaison between landlords and clients.
  • Refer residents to get PPD and physicals completed within two weeks of their entrance into the facility.
  • Obtain an accurate history of client's housing situation to assess what services are needed.
  • Facilitate Tier II interviews and act as a liaison between Tier II shelter and AEGIS clients.
  • Submit housing applications for all housing programs available (i.e. Section 8, and NYCHA).
  • Handle requests for extensions to be submitted to HRA.
  • Refer residents to Public Assistance and monitor their compliance with HRA and the ADVENT program.
  • Negotiate, assess, and assist client needs with respect to benefits and follow the resident's case from entry to discharge.
  • Assist and escort residents in going to HRA/social service agency appointments when necessary.
  • Participate and attend staff, service plan review, and clinical team meetings.
