About The Position

The Housing Specialist assures housing readiness of clients by implementing appropriate trainings and developing permanent housing options in both public and private sectors. University Family Residence is a transitional family shelter where residents learn essential skills that enable them to meet the challenges of everyday life. Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or 60 college credits courses in Human Services field, or High School Diploma or GED with 2 year of related experience in shelter services for low income and/or homeless population.
  • Knowledge of federal guidelines for public and private low-income housing required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • A clean and valid driver’s license is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct housing eligibility assessments of all applicable clients.
  • Develop linkages with real estate companies and office of public housing.
  • Maintain and update listings of permanent affordable housing.
  • Develop and facilitate client workshops and individual sessions on skills and information necessary to acquire and maintain independent permanent housing.
  • Track placements and conduct follow up of clients placed into permanent housing.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.
