Housing Specialist Needed!!! The Housing Specialist provides direct assistance to Schoolhouse Link clients including homeless families and unaccompanied homeless youth to assist in securing safe, stable housing and affordable housing options. This position requires a compassionate and solution focused individual who can navigate the housing market, collaborate with community partners, and provide to support to vulnerable populations. The Housing Locator will engage with clients to assess their housing needs, developed tailored housing plans, and ensure access to appropriate housing resources.

  • Provide client assessment and support
  • Serve as system navigator to address intake and assessment of homeless families and unaccompanied homeless youth.
  • Develop and implement individual housing plans based on client goals and available resources.
  • Assist client in completing rental applications, securing necessary documentation and negotiating lease terms.
  • Conduct monthly in-home visits with young adults.
  • Educate young adults on life skills related to securing and maintaining appropriate housing.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with landlords, property owners and low- income housing.
  • Collaborate with case managers and other service providers to ensure that clients have the necessary resources and supports for long-term stability.
  • Complete and submit required Housing Financial Authority and CDBG documentation according to contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions, housing searches, placements and outcomes.
  • Ability to work well with staff and partner agencies.
  • Ability to maintain a professional working relationship with outside agencies.
  • Have organizational skills and abilities and be detail oriented.
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to navigate complex and sometime challenging situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and utilize initiative, ability to be organized and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to learn computer applications in a Windows environment, Microsoft Office (Excel, WORD, ACCESS).
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three years social services experience.
  • Knowledge of housing resources, rental market and affordable housing programs.
