About The Position

We are excited to invite a passionate and experienced Housing Specialist to join our team! Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for an experienced Housing Specialist for our Families w/ Children facility located in the Hell’s Kitchen area of Manhattan. As the Housing Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in our organization, collaborating with the Family Services team to support our mission to provide wraparound services for our clients. We are looking for someone adept at finding opportunities, comfortable working at a quick pace, a great communicator, and compassionate about the needs of homeless families. Homes for the Homeless operates shelters for families experiencing homelessness in NYC. Our family residences are more than just a place to sleep. Families can make the most of their stay through accessing an array of onsite programs. Many of these programs are also available to people living in the local community. Our goal is to have a positive impact so families can thrive long after they leave our shelters.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • At least one year of relevant experience.
  • Experience working with brokers and landlords.
  • Ability to travel by public transportation to all 5 boroughs and outside of NYC.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree or Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • Bi-lingual is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of around 40 clients.
  • Conduct housing intakes.
  • Create an exit strategy by exploring the client’s needs.
  • Complete housing reports and maintain up-to-date progress notes.
  • Meet weekly, monthly, and quarterly move-out targets.
  • Conducts monthly housing workshops with clients.
  • Provide clients with housing referrals and leads.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with DHS staff.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with brokers, agents, landlords and community agencies to gain housing leads.
  • Schedule appointments for apartment viewings.
  • Conduct inspections of units.
  • Accompany clients to open houses, apartment viewings and lease signings.
