About The Position

The Housing Referral Assistant will ensure customers are afforded complete referral services and a full range of personal assistance IAW AFI 32-6000. The primary purpose of this position is to provide housing referral support for military members, their families, and eligible civilian employees housing referral assistance.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of housing procedures and standard property management practices preferred
  • Beginner to intermediate computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs. Working knowledge of advanced software applications is preferred
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively
  • Ability to enter data accurately into databases.
  • Ability to understand and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to generate routine reports and correspondence
  • Interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff. Will also routinely interact with other crew members
  • Ability to use general office equipment such as fax, phone, copier, scanner, printers, etc.
  • Ability to follow a process.
  • Strong professional customer service skills, including active listening, prompt service and follow-up
  • Strong decision analysis and problem solving skills; ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions. Must be able to communicate issues to management.
  • Ability to learn and understand corporate policies and procedures and how they relate to goals.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Housing Referral Office (HRO), AFI 32-6000, and/or equivalent property management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Brief incoming personnel on community and privatized housing options.
  • Determine eligibility for Privatized Housing and refers those who are eligible tenants to the Privatized Housing Office.
  • Brief Privatized Housing Residents on the Bill of Rights and other resources prior to signing a lease.
  • Provide counseling assistance to military members and their families regarding equal opportunity housing and legal clauses.
  • Create and maintain community information packet for new arrivals and local members including information regarding schools, shopping areas, recreational facilities, transportation and other services in the local community available to the military family.
  • Provide all required documentation requested by the Housing Management Office to satisfy higher headquarter needs for privatized housing data.
  • Gather and evaluate data, and reports compliance monthly to the Housing Management Office.
  • Reviews Resident Leases if requested
  • A valid Driver’s License is required to drive to and from available off-base housing.
  • Conduct community housing inspections each month according to regulation; tracked in eMH.
  • Develops and maintains liaison with community Property Managers, Landlords, Real Estate Agents and other agencies regarding housing needs of personnel. Assis with HOMES.mil as needed.
  • Collect, validate and submit available rental properties through the Military Housing Portal for Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) data collection.
  • Manage and maintain HOMES.mil listings through the Enterprise Military Housing Portal (eMH).
  • Provide incoming personnel with current lists of available rentals and information on how to access HOMES.mil.
  • Mediates Landlord/Tenant housing complaints
  • Oversee and monitor advertising of available housing appearing in Department of Defense sponsored database (HOMES.mil).
  • Travel may be required for training
  • The Housing Referral Assistant may be required to perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
